I studied physics (Bachelor and Master of Science) at the University of Mainz, specializing in (theoretical) particle physics. When I started my Ph.D. at the University of Cologne, I began to focus more intensively on astrophysics, in particular star formation and the dynamics of the interstellar medium (ISM).
In addition to playing the piano, I am also into bookbinding, which is a very calming activity that produces a beautiful result. I also enjoy woodworking, drawing, reading, biking, football, and hiking. On this page you will find a few impressions of my hiking activities. The pictures range from trips to cities like Vienna and the Zugspitze (Germany’s highest mountain), a hike to and around the 100m radio telescope Effelsberg, over to places like the Yosemite National Park, Arches and the Grand Canyon.

I am married and have two wonderful kids.
